Baljuri – Summit of the Sleeping Giant

Your journey begins with a long yet stunning drive from Kathgodam to Munsiyari, passing through lush valleys, dense forests, and charming hill towns like Almora and Thal.

The road winds through the Himalayas, offering breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. Munsiyari, the gateway to high-altitude treks, welcomes you with a panoramic view of the Panchachuli Peaks.

After an early breakfast, the trek begins with a gradual ascent and descent along scenic trails surrounded by dense forests of rhododendrons and oak trees. You will cross wooden bridges, cascading streams, and lush green valleys while following the Pindari River.

A packed lunch will be provided on the way. By the early evening, you will reach Dwali, a small resting point in the Himalayas, where you will camp overnight and enjoy dinner.

The trail today is relatively short but challenging, with steep climbs in some sections. After a relaxed morning breakfast, you will begin your trek towards Phurkiya, the last shelter before the base camp, where you will stop for lunch.
The final stretch consists of 2 km of steep ascent, followed by a steady climb to reach Baljuri Base Camp.

Upon arrival, set up camps at the foot of the glacier and take some time to soak in the breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Dinner and overnight stay at Base Camp.

This is a crucial acclimatization day to help your body adjust to the high altitude before climbing further. You will undergo a technical training session led by your expedition team, covering ropes, ice axes, crampons, and mountaineering techniques.

Short practice climbs will be conducted to prepare for the summit push. The rest of the day is spent hydrating, resting, and preparing gear for the climb ahead.

After breakfast, you will begin load ferrying to Advanced Base Camp (ABC) at 16,800 feet. This involves carrying essential gear, food, and climbing equipment to reduce load for the final ascent. The trail consists of rocky terrain and glacier patches, requiring the use of crampons and rope support.

After setting up at ABC, you will return to Base Camp for dinner and overnight rest.

Today, the climbing team will open the route towards the Summit Camp at 18,100 feet. You will make a slow, calculated ascent, mapping out the best climbing route while navigating crevasses and snow slopes.

After marking the route, the team will return to ABC for the night to rest before the summit push.

After an early breakfast, you will shift to Summit Camp, carrying essential gear for the final ascent. This is a short but steep climb, involving fixed rope sections and technical glacier crossings.

Upon arrival, camps will be set up, and you will rest early in preparation for the summit attempt

The most awaited day of the expedition begins before dawn (around 2:00 AM). The climb to Baljuri Peak’s summit at 19,720 feet is a steep and technical ascent, requiring ice axes, fixed ropes, and endurance.

After several hours of climbing, you will finally reach the summit, where you will witness an incredible 360° panoramic view of the Himalayas, including Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and Maiktoli peaks.

After celebrating your achievement, you will begin the descent to ABC, where you will rest overnight.

After breakfast, you will pack up camps and descend back to Dwali, covering a long but relatively easy trail.

The trek will take you through glacier moraine, rocky ridges, and forested trails, retracing your earlier steps. Upon arrival at Dwali, enjoy a warm meal and rest overnight in tents.

The trek back to Khati Village is a pleasant descent, allowing you to enjoy the lush green surroundings, river streams, and meadows. By the afternoon, you will reach Khati, where you can relax and unwind at a local homestay.

This is also a time to reflect on your summit experience and celebrate the successful completion of the expedition.

Today is a buffer day in case of weather delays during the climb. If everything goes as planned, you can spend the day exploring Khati Village, interacting with local villagers, and learning about their culture and way of life.

This small Himalayan village is known for its traditional wooden houses, terraced farms, and warm hospitality.

After an early breakfast, you will drive back to Kathgodam, marking the end of this incredible Baljuri Peak Expedition.

The journey will take around 8-9 hours, and you will reach Kathgodam by evening, from where you can board your return train or onward travel arrangements.
